Student Problem: Unit R Concept 2

This is about how to use the sum and difference formulas when given values for right triangles. First, you have to draw the triangles in the correct quadrants. Next you have to find the missing piece of the triangle. Now, the numbers need to plug into the sum and difference formulas. In this case, the formulas sin(u+v) and tan(u-v).

The readers need to pay attention to the quadrants of the triangles. They also need to pay attention to what is positive and negative. The hypotheses will be positive. There are two triangles that lie in two different quadrants, II and I.Quadrant II. To solve for tangent, the readers can multiply by common denominator and solve for it.
